The music is loud and, as sound effects support what’s happening in front of you, the entire scene starts moving down, making you feel as if the main floor you’re on is a huge elevator. That’s the beginning of the “Simurg” show. A musical about the wonders of the Ottoman empire, its roots, and its influence on the soul of today’s Turkish society, premiered at the Haliç Congress Center of Istanbul on May 6th, 2016 as part of a national and eventually worldwide tour. A creative process that started for me last February when I was commissioned by Acciona Producciones & Diseño for the creative direction of this 80 minutes multimedia spectacle (more details here). Most of the 3D mapping was projected onto a 900 square meter surface, the 60 by 15 meters front and sides of the scenario. The rest of the projections throughout the show performances took place in an incredible 30 by 5 meters background feather screen (25.000 feathers were needed). And all of it with the amazing acoustic of a live 42 musicians orchestra and 45 member choir.

A new brand communication experience for me. The brand communication of a society aimed to invigorate the pride of an entire country. As the world is gazing at one single screen (the one where you see what you want, when you want, and where you want it), whenever I get a “physical” project lately, the canvas seems to get bigger and bigger every time. It’s as if brands were going from one extreme to the other when trying to communicate. Either you try to connect individually with millions of single humans or you make the canvas literally as big as possible to make people experience your brand. Many times live. Because when it comes to connecting with the heart of the people it’s definitely all about experiences because they talk directly to the heart without asking permission from the rational. And live shows have long demonstrated they’re an incredible place to make people overwhelmed by emotions.

XXXL

Imagine being in a theatre waiting for the show to begin and suddenly the scenario in front of you starts to turn around itself unveiling an unexpected dimension.
