{"id":422,"date":"2010-07-13T08:05:13","date_gmt":"2010-07-13T16:05:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.lorenzobennassar.com\/?p=422"},"modified":"2022-08-13T20:52:41","modified_gmt":"2022-08-13T19:52:41","slug":"adidasvsnike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lorenzobennassar.com\/blog\/2010\/07\/13\/adidasvsnike\/","title":{"rendered":"Adidas vs. Nike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Still inebriated by Sunday&#8217;s happiness because of our national soccer team&#8217;s heroic victory (and we are not talking about <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/ArdfjntbJ7M\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Casilla&#8217;s kiss<\/a>), it&#8217;s also interesting to look at the World Cup from a brand perspective.<br \/>\nAfter working in advertising for 20 years, I can only be an unconditional <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/16NQYA4ml8Q\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nike<\/a> fan. I was professionally born in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bkTJIQQJo6A\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chiat\/Day<\/a>, the agency that made <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=FymNhPoIq-U\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Randy Newman&#8217;s &#8220;I love LA&#8221; the official&#8217;s city anthem for Nike<\/a> in the &#8217;80s, and for the last 20 years I have admired how <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wk.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">W+K<\/a> and their many and brilliant collaborators have demonstrated how to build a brand with good communication (not only TV commercials).<br \/>\nBut yesterday Adidas, their eternal rival, the one that since &#8220;Just do it&#8221; hasn&#8217;t been able to stop being the 2nd, scored a great goal against Nike. Truth be told, Adidas is lately doing some great things. They have almost always done things right, but right is not good enough to stop being 2nd. &#8220;Impossible is nothing&#8221; is right (it would have been great if it had not been under Nike&#8217;s trail). And recovering <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/vws6DsCcKGM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Adidas Original<\/a> was great.<br \/>\nBut being the Spanish team&#8217;s brand&#8230; that was great. Because, as a brand, in an event followed by more than 700 million people, on Sunday, Nike was 2nd and Adidas was the World Champion.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">Adidas o Nike<\/h3>\n<p>Todav\u00eda embriagados con la alegr\u00eda del domingo por la proeza de nuestra selecci\u00f3n (y no estamos hablando del <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/ArdfjntbJ7M\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">beso de Casillas<\/a>), es tambi\u00e9n interesante ver la hist\u00f3rica victoria de Espa\u00f1a desde el punto de vista de las marcas.<br \/>\nDedicandome a esto, no puedo m\u00e1s que ser fan incondicional de <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/16NQYA4ml8Q\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nike<\/a>. Nac\u00ed profesionalmente en <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bkTJIQQJo6A\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chiat\/Day<\/a>, la agencia que hizo que Nike se apropiara del &#8220;I Love LA&#8221; de Randy Newman como himno oficial de Los Angeles en los 80 y durante los \u00faltimos 20 a\u00f1os no he dejado de admirar como <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wk.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">W+K<\/a> y sus muchos y brillantes colaboradores demuestran como construir una marca con buena comunicaci\u00f3n (no solo spots de TV).<br \/>\nPero ayer Adidas, su eterno rival, el que desde &#8220;Just do it&#8221; no ha conseguido dejar de ser el 2\u00ba, marc\u00f3 un gol a Nike. Y es que \u00faltimamente en Adidas han hecho algunas cosas muy bien. Casi nunca han dejado de hacerlas bien, pero bien, no basta para dejar de ser el 2\u00ba. &#8220;Impossible is nothing&#8221; est\u00e1 bien (habr\u00eda estado muy bien si no hubiese ido al rebufo de Nike). Y recuperar su marca <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/vws6DsCcKGM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Adidas Original<\/a> est\u00e1 muy bien.<br \/>\nPero ser la marca de la Selecci\u00f3n Espa\u00f1ola&#8230; eso ha estado muy bien.
